This person acts as a champion for the project within the organization, ensuring it receives the attention, resources, and support needed to succeed. The project sponsor is involved in high-level planning and decision-making and is responsible for approving major project deliverables and milestones.

  • Clear Vision and Objectives: Define and communicate a clear vision and objectives for the project. This helps ensure that the project team understands the strategic importance and goals of the project.

When to Involve a Project Sponsor

  • Project Initiation: Engage a project sponsor at the very beginning of the project to provide direction, secure approval, and allocate resources.
  • Major Milestones: Involve the project sponsor at key milestones to review progress, approve deliverables, and make critical decisions.
  • Issue Resolution: Engage the project sponsor when significant issues or risks arise that require executive intervention and decision-making.
